The Poets light but Lamps --
Themselves -- go out --
The Wicks they stimulate --
If vital Light
Inhere as do the Suns --
Each Age a Lens
Disseminating their Circumference --

Poem by Dr. Arindam Banerjee

Soliloquy of a solitary soul

I want to tell some thing of life
In the pitch darkness of mystery
Everything seems to alike;
I want to unveil the mystery,
I ponder and ponder,
When I feel solitary.
Oh solitude, I am not afraid,
You come and engulf my mind,
Keep my restless soul quiet.
Oh solitude! Often you come at tranquil night
To make my faded thoughts more bright.
Who said I am companyless?
You accompany me with your beautiful serenity.
I can find your trace
Even in the night’s darkness.

You keep on holding your divinity.
At daytime , I am in the midst
Of all other companies
Who are male and female
Those persons talk about their own tale.
I cannot find any lonely moment
Either to nurture my thoughts that are pent
Or to tell them about your tell.
Oh solitude!
You really help me
To delve in old sweet memories of glee
From the pot of my mind
Where I can look a solace to find.
Oh solitude!
Do you bring an emptiness
To anybody’s life?
For me? No! No! No!
How it can be!
Do some people are
Scared of you?
Do they whimper?
For me No ! No! No!
How it can be!
You are there
Where the brook flows at it’s own will
Where the butterfly flies at it’s own will
Where the bee flutters at it’s own will
I can realise there
Nothing but your presence to feel
Oh solitude! My dearest friend!
How can I express
How much do I like your nice dress
Of sweet silence
And how to tell
That we are in love
In this lonely cell!
